Problem
Definition.
“Takatuf PMI 2014 Team” is just established as a part of
PMI program conducted in Muscat from 24th to 29th May
2014. The team consists of 25 members from different companies and
specializations in Oman. The team Project Manager should know at what level of
understanding his team are and make appropriate interventions that move
the team forward.
2. Identify the
Feasible Alternative.
To help the team Project Manager on this, we will use
Tuckman Analysis, which is one of the more known team development theories and
has formed the basis of many further ideas since its conception. Tuckman's
theory focuses on the way in which a team tackles a task from the initial
formation of the team through to the completion of the project. Tuckman later
added a fifth phase; Adjourning and Transforming to cover the finishing of a
task.

3. Development
of the Outcome for Alternative
To implement Tuckman’s
model, The team was asked to fill a quick survey of 32 questions developed by
Donald Clark[2]. 23 responses were collected out of 25 team members.
Figure.2: Donald Clark[2] Survey Results.
After we
gathered the team’s members results, then we identified the highest, lowest,
and most likely figures in each stages. These numbers will be implemented in Delphi
technique with P70 calculation.
4. Selection of
Criteria.
Following table
show calculation result of Delphi technique with P70 for above data.
Figure.3: Delphi Technique With P70
The calculation
indicates that the highest P70 result for Takatuf PMI 2014 Team is Performing
Stage, the lowest P70 result is Norming Stage, and the other two
stages “Storming and Forming” are closed to the Performing Stage.
5. Analysis of
the Alternative.
This result indicates that Takatuf PMI 2014 find the right ways to get the job done smoothly and effectively without inappropriate conflict or the need for external supervision. By this time, they are motivated and knowledgeable. The team members are now competent, autonomous and able to handle the decision-making process without supervision. Dissent is expected and allowed as long as it is channeled through means acceptable to the team. Supervisors of the team during this phase are almost always participating. The team will make most of the necessary decisions.
6. Selection of
the Preferred Alternative.
During the
first week of distance learning, I believe that the team was under the Norming Stage. The team manages to have one goal and come to a mutual plan
for the team at this stage. All team members take the responsibility and have
the ambition to work for the success of the team's goals. This was reflected successfully
in selection of the same topic for the first Blog. By the end of the first
week, the team now steps on the Performing Stage.
7. Performance
Monitoring and the Post Evaluation of Result.
As we have only
13 weeks to finish all the work assigned to each team member, there should be a
close monitoring to ensure that everybody submit his part successfully and on
time. It is proposed that monitoring is conducted in weekly base.
